A CPU chip prototyped at the ACM conference in Italy in 2012 that is said to use considerably less power than regular CPUs, although it can generate errors. Inexact processing is tolerable in applications that decode audio and video where errors do not impede the results. For example, tiny glitches in video frames may be imperceptible to the human eye. CPUs have always been designed for error-free operation; however, given the countless requirements for A/V rendering in mobile devices, the inexact chip may have a future.
