Apple's most advanced tablet family. Introduced in 2015 with a 12.9" Retina Display screen and up to 128GB of storage, capacity increased to 2TB in 2021. The Pro rivals Apple's own laptop computers, and its four speakers boosted tablet volume significantly (see
MacBook).
Current models are 11" and 12.9". Smaller screens were available for a while but were discontinued (see below).
Features of Pro Models
In 2018, the 11" model was added, and both 11" and 12.9" Pros switched from the Lightning connector to USB Type-C for charging and data transfer. The Home button and fingerprint scanner were replaced with gestures and facial recognition (see
Touch ID and
Face ID).
In 2020, along with greater performance, the camera was improved, and a LIDAR scanner was added for more realistic augmented reality (AR).
M Chips and Magic Keyboard
In 2021, Pro models switched to the M1 chip and added a Magic Keyboard option that includes a trackpad. The 2023 iPads were upgraded to M2 (see
Apple M series). See

iPad and
iOS versions.
