Definition: iCOMP


(Intel COmparative Microprocessor Performance) An earlier index of CPU performance from Intel. iCOMP Version 1.0 tested a mix of 16-bit and 32-bit integer, floating point, graphics and video operations. Versions 2.0 and 3.0 were geared for 32-bit processors and were not compatible with each other. Ratings ran from 22 to 3280; for example, iCOMP 1.0 reported 22 for a 16 MHz 386SX processor while iCOMP 3.0 yielded 3280 for a 1 GHz Pentium III.
