Definition: hot aisle/cold aisle

A server farm floor plan that provides a path for the efficient flow of air conditioning. Rows of equipment racks are positioned face to face creating a cold aisle and back to back creating the hot aisle. The time to create a hot aisle/cold aisle layout is when the datacenter is being designed. See datacenter cooling.

Hot and Cold Aisles
Air conditioning is blown into the front of the servers (cold aisle), and the heated air at the back of the servers (hot aisle) rises to the return vent.
