Definition: host adapter

Also called a "controller" or "host bus adapter," it is circuitry that connects one or more peripheral units to a computer. It is typically an expansion card that plugs into the computer's bus, although the equivalent circuits for SATA (IDE) drives are chips on the motherboard. See host, SATA and PC data buses.
