Definition: front-facing camera


A camera in a laptop, tablet, smartphone or desktop computer monitor that has the lens facing the user on the same side as the screen. Also called a "selfie camera" in a mobile device or a "Webcam" in a laptop, a front-facing camera is required to make video calls. Contrast with rear-facing camera. Front and Rear
These tablet specs show five megapixels (MPs) for the rear camera but only two for the front. Camera photos might be printed; however, Webcams are typically used for Facetime and Skype, and 2 MP is more than adequate.
