Definition: front-facing camera

A built-in camera in a laptop, tablet or smartphone that faces the user. For desktop computers, a "Webcam" clips onto the monitor. Also called a "selfie camera," a front-facing camera is required to make video calls. Contrast with rear-facing camera. See Webcam, selfie and video calling.

Front and Rear Cameras
Extracted from the GSM Arena website, these Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra phone specs show the huge difference between front-facing "selfie" and rear-facing cameras. Photos from a rear camera might be printed and require the higher resolution; however, the lower selfie resolution is more than adequate for video calling.
