Definition: diagramming program

Software that allows the user to create flow charts, organization charts and similar diagrams. It is similar to a drawing program, but specialized for creating interconnected diagrams. It comes with a palette of predefined shapes and symbols, and usually keeps the lines connected between them if they are edited and rearranged. Examples of flowcharting programs are Visio, FlowCharter, allCLEAR, SmartDraw and NetViz.

Keep the Lines Connected
Using a palette of predefined shapes and arrows, FlowCharter allows diagrams and organization charts to be quickly created. A major feature of a flowcharting program is its ability to keep the lines connected to the boxes. If a box is moved, the line is moved with it. FlowCharter and other Micrografx products were acquired by Corel.
