Definition: flagship product

A company's major product. Very often, the flagship product is why the company was founded or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and Microsoft Office have been flagship products of Microsoft. Photoshop is a flagship product of Adobe Systems, and the Mac Studio is the flagship model in Apple's Mac line. Samsung's Galaxy S Ultra models are the flagship smartphones from the company. See Galaxy S and Mac Studio.

From the Lead Ship in the Fleet
The term dates back to the 1700s where the lead ship in a naval convoy would fly the country's flag. Today, it refers to a company's most important product or service, but it can refer to the leader in almost anything such as a flagship university or flagship automobile.
