Unit) A GPU that is not plugged into the computer's case. Used to augment laptop computers with a more high-powered graphics card, the external GPU (eGPU) is typically connected via Thunderbolt. It is also used to enhance the graphics on a Mac desktop computer with a more powerful graphics card.

If a Thunderbolt port is not available on their laptops, gaming enthusiasts have created custom configurations with adapters and cables hanging out of the bottom of the laptop case that connect to an external GPU card plugged into an exposed power supply that would normally be inside a PC. See
