Definition: enterprise router

A network device that forwards data packets from one network to another. The "enterprise" means that implementation requires a knowledgeable network professional. Such routers do not have Wi-Fi built in as do home wireless routers. Enterprise routers have numerous Ethernet ports and can be very large and costly, handling millions of packets of Internet traffic per second. See router, wired router and wireless router.
