Definition: dial-up network


The switched telephone network regulated by government and administered by common carriers. Also called "plain old telephone system" (see POTS) and "public switched telephone network" (see PSTN).

As of 2025, less than one percent of American households were using dial-up. Also in 2025, AOL announced the end of its dial-up service. See analog modem.
