Also called "data center Ethernet," "converged Ethernet" and "converged enhanced Ethernet," data center bridging (DCB) refers to a variety of Ethernet enhancements that eliminate packet loss when transmitting data to and from storage networks and clusters of servers.
Governed by the IEEE and IETF, data center bridging aims to provide "lossless Ethernet," which is contrary to normal Ethernet, whereby packets could be dropped without warning when traffic is congested. In the common TCP/IP network, the TCP layer is responsible for end-to-end integrity, not Ethernet. See
