Definition: data library


(1) A section within the IT department that retains offline media in the form of microfilm, optical discs, and disk and tape cartridges.

(2) An online storage peripheral. See tape library and disk library.

(3) Years ago, the data library was a section within the datacenter that housed the removable disks and tapes. Data library personnel were responsible for cataloging and maintaining the media. See datacenter.
