Definition: data driven

An implication that real-time data are used to make decisions. Data represent everything that takes place within an organization but may not always be available at the best time to make important decisions. Although the term is heard often, unless it focuses on when data are captured and their resulting influence on decision making, the term has no meaning because the entire world is data driven. See data administration and big data.
