A compact, lightweight electric motor that is part of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) power train in "hypercars" from Koenigsegg in Sweden. Weighing 86 pounds, the motor generates 800 horsepower, but instead of the common three-phase electric, the Dark Matter motor uses a six-phase "Raxial Flux" design. The motor is expected in power trains beyond luxury automobiles. See
PHEV.

Custom designed for each buyer, Koenigsegg's Gemera plug-in hybrid (PHEV) uses the Dark Matter motor and a gas engine. Costing as much as two million dollars, at its introduction in 2020, Koenigsegg said only 300 Gemeras will be made, and all 300 have been presold. (Image courtesy of Koenigsegg Automotive AB.)
