Definition: CSCW

(Computer Supported Cooperative Work) The ways technology helps people work together on projects. CSCW covers collaboration in the same venue (see roomware) as well as across distances. Real-time collaboration such as videoconferencing and document editng is "synchronous," while email, calendars and blogs fall into "asynchronous" collaboration. CSCW conferences are sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). See collaboration software and groupware.
