Definition: compressed folder

A digital folder that has been compressed to a smaller size to save disk space. It can be used for backup or any purpose. Supported by the operating system, compressed folders offer the user a way to store larger files or a larger number of files without taking up as much space. If the files are already compressed or use a built-in compression method as do many graphics files, the space savings may be minimal or none at all. See data compression.
