Definition: cloud PBX

A VoIP-based PBX system that is hosted by a service provider over the Internet. All phone features such as auto attendant, voicemail and conference calling are handled in the cloud PBX datacenter. Even intercom transmission between two office phones in the same building is routed via the Internet to the cloud provider and back. Organizations such as Nextiva, Vonage, RingCentral, 8x8 and Jive Voice are examples of cloud PBX providers. 3CX is an example of cloud PBX software available for private hosting or to organizations that offer cloud PBX services.
