Definition: CTO

(Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. Very often, the roles of the CTO and chief information officer (CIO) are the same, and the title depends on the company. However, in large organizations, the CIO is generally responsible for the day-to-day operations, while the CTO's job is involved with vendor relationships and strategic planning. See CIO and CDO.
