Definition: cell tower

A base station owned and/or operated by a cellular provider such as AT&T or Verizon that transmits signals to the devices of its subscribers. See micro tower, cellular network, cellular data and cellular dongle.

Mobile and Backhaul
The vertical antennas on these towers transmit to and from mobile users in the local cell, while the drum-like antennas carry signals to other towers for network backhaul and the Internet. The drum shrouds keep the signals focused in a particular direction.

A Camouflaged Tower
These strange-looking trees are cell towers camouflaged to look less industrial.
