Definition: cash-to-card machine

A machine that converts cash into a pre-paid debit card. Also called a "cash-to-card kiosk" and "reverse ATM machine," cash-to-card machines became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic because of the number of hands paper money comes in contact with. People deposit cash into the machine and receive a debit card with an account balance. A cash-to-card machine is also convenient for travelers exchanging money in a different country, and the unbanked can use it to make online purchases. See ATM machine, Reverse ATM and unbanked.
