The computer industry loves buzzwords, but they are only fashionable for some period of time.
AI, Crypto and Metaverse
AI is the top buzzword. The term is used whenever possible to sound high-tech even if the AI part is distant (see
AI glossary).
Hot in the early 2020s, crypto introduced a thousand new terms. Crypto is still very important for those who can withstand the volatility (see
crypto glossary).
The Metaverse is dead because nobody understood it (see
metaverse).
It's Cool to Use a Buzzword
In the beginning, people use them to sell products and appear smart (see
buzzword compliant). In time, many buzzwords become common terms. See

Hardly Nanoscale
At the turn of the century, nanotechnology was popular, and "nano" was tacked onto existing products to sound cool. This mouse transceiver from Microsoft protruded only a quarter inch from the USB port, but it was hardly nano-sized where components are measured in billionths of a meter. See
nanotechnology and
cloudwashing.
