Definition: buzzword
In the computer industry, a buzzword refers to the latest technology. Because they may sound catchy and leading edge, buzzwords are often overused and abused. For example, at the turn of the century, nanotechnology was extremely popular, and the "nano" term was tacked onto existing processes that had been at microscopic scale for years. To maximize the buzz, organizations even added nano to their corporate names. See cloudwashing.

There is no doubt that a lot of AI development is taking place, but the term is used whenever possible to add a high-tech aspect to a product or system even if only distantly related.
