Definition: burst mode photography

A high-speed camera mode that is often used for shooting sports and other action events. Also called "continuous still recording," it allows still images to be taken in rapid succession so that the best photo can be selected later. Although video recording is a series of successive frames, each frame is often not the full image, and still selection requires editing software. Burst mode photography ensures that any image can be quickly viewed and extracted independently. See interframe coding.
