Redirected from: below the fold

Definition: above the fold

The part of a Web page that is visible without scrolling. The fold is an invisible line simulating where a newspaper is folded. This is a design consideration when laying out a Web page so that all the important information can be seen at once. The majority of monitors today have at least 1,080 lines of resolution, and the page size above the fold is roughly a thousand vertical lines. Contrast with "below the fold," which is the non-visible content that must be scrolled to be seen.
