Definition: antitrust cases

Although many in the computer field might equate "antitrust" with the long-running Microsoft trial (1998-2004), the U.S. government sued IBM three times in its history for antitrust violations. In 1956, IBM was ordered to sell its punch card equipment rather than only lease it and to divest itself of its service bureau business. AT&T was sued three times by the government, and the 1974 suit led to its eventual breakup 10 years later.
