Definition: World Wide Wait

What many people called the Web in the days of analog modems. However, if a website is overloaded today, it can still take a long time to retrieve a page. The World Wide Wait is caused by any combination of a slow modem, overloaded Web server or any clog in one of the routers or switches at a national, regional or local ISP. See ISP and Wild Wooly Web.
