Definition: Microsoft Works

An earlier integrated software package for Windows and Mac from Microsoft. It was never as comprehensive as Microsoft Office.

Works for DOS and Windows
In 1987, "Works for DOS" debuted, and "MS Works for Windows" was introduced in 1991. Works software used WKS (spreadsheet), WDB (database) and WPS (document) file extensions rather than the XLS, MDB and DOC extensions in Office; however, it imported Microsoft Office files (see Microsoft Office).
