Definition: WHDI

(Wireless Home Digital Interface) A short-range wireless technology from the WHDI Special Interest Group. Using the unlicensed 5 GHz band, WHDI transmits 1080p HD video from a data source to a TV within a range of about 100 feet. Although WHDI does not have the high-speed potential of WirelessHD and WiGig, which operate in the 60 GHz band, WHDI does not suffer from the highly directional signal of those high-frequency technologies.

The WHDI Stick
The WHDI "Stick" is a flash drive-sized WHDI transmitter that plugs into an HDMI-out port of a video source. For power, the Stick also plugs into USB. At the TV side, the WHDI receiver plugs into an HDMI-in port. See wireless USB, WiGig and WirelessHD.
