Definition: Windows based

(1) (Windows-based; upper case "W") Hardware and software that runs a version of Microsoft Windows.

(2) (windows-based; lower case "w") Displaying applications in resizable windows on screen. Same as "graphics based" and "GUI based." Graphical user interfaces (GUIs) on desktop and laptop computers are all windows based. Although images may be zoomed in and out, GUIs on smartphones and tablets generally present their applications full screen with little or no window resizing capability. Contrast with text based.
