Definition: Windows HPC Server


A high-performance computing (HPC) version of Windows. Windows HPC Server 2008 is a subset of Windows Server 2008 that is designed for parallel computing (clustering). Windows HPC includes failover capabilities as well as the MPI protocol for passing messages between computers and RDMA, which enables direct memory access from one computer to another.
