Definition: Win Run Windows programs

There are various ways to launch (run) an application program in Windows.

FROM THE START MENU
Click the Start menu and then Programs or All Programs. Click the Program Group, then click the program name you want to launch. In Win10, click the Start menu and All Apps or the Start menu and app tile.

FROM EXPLORER
Right click the Start menu and select Explore. Click the desired folder icon, and then double click the document icon.

FROM A FOLDER ON THE DESKTOP
Double click the folder on the desktop, and double click the document icon. In order for the document to launch the appropriate software, it must be associated by extension name to the program. All popular documents have been associated. To learn about file associations, see Win File association.

FROM A SHORTCUT ON THE DESKTOP
Shortcuts have a small northeast-pointing arrow at the bottom left side of the icon. Double click the icon to launch the program.

BY NAME
Select RUN from the Start menu (see Win Run command). Type in the program file name. Utilities such as the Registry editor (REGEDIT.EXE) can be conveniently launched from the Run menu. The BROWSE button lets you move around the folder hierarchy to find the file you want.

END A WINDOWS APPLICATION
Click the X button at the top right corner of the window or double click the top left corner.
