Definition: WIMP


(1) (Windows, Icons, Menus and Pointing device) A synonym for a graphical user interface (GUI). However, WIMP is sometimes used as a derogatory reference to a GUI by programmers who like to type commands on the command line. However, as AI proliferates, WIMP will also be contrasted with voice interfaces (see conversational interface). See command line and GUI.

(2) (WiMP) An earlier music streaming service from Norway-based Aspiro AB. Introduced in 2010, WiMP offered songs the in AAC and high-resoultion FLAC and ALAC formats. In 2015, WiMP merged into the TIDAL music service. See TIDAL.
