(VIdeo Rendering Graphics Engine) An earlier family of 2D and 3D graphics accelerator chips from S3 (later SONICblue). Although aimed at the gaming world, ViRGE-based graphics cards competed more favorably rendering business applications. Introduced in 1995, the ViRGE product line was discontinued in 2000.
