Definition: VST

(Virtual Studio Technology) VST is a plug-in format for a digital audio workstation (DAW) from Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH, a subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation. Originally a format for effects, VST 2.0 accepted MIDI data from external sources, turning VST into a software-based sound source platform. VST sound sources are known as "VST instruments." See DAW.
