Definition: TrueDoc

An embedded font from Netscape and Bitstream that is stored on a Web server so that it can be retrieved and rendered by the browser. This allows the Web designer to publish pages using fonts no matter whether the user has them installed in the computer or not.

Other applications for TrueDoc include embedded devices, portable documents and ITV. In 2008, Bitstream stated that TrueDoc's future is in interactive and Internet television, where the need is critical for a scalable font subsystem that supports speedily displayed and high-quality text. See font embedding.
