(Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, Ltd. Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan) The leading "pure-play" semiconductor fab, which means it makes chips from their customers' designs. Founded in 1987, TSMC was the first company dedicated to making chips designed by fabless companies. For example, it makes chips for Apple, AMD, Qualcomm and NVIDIA. TSMC was the first fab to produce 5 nanometer chips (see process technology). The company is also building a huge facility in Phoenix, Arizona, which should be completed by 2024.
