Definition: Slate EV

An affordable bare-bones line of electric vehicles expected in late 2026 from Slate Auto, Troy, Michigan. The announced base price of $27,500 makes it the least expensive EV made in America. With barely more than a speedometer on the dashboard, the Slate uses the driver's phone or tablet for navigation and infotainment.

A Blank Slate
The concept is that the vehicle is a "blank slate" for user customization, and the company has trademarked the term. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is an investor. See electric vehicle and Cybertruck.

Slate Pickup and SUVs
The Slate can be ordered as a pickup truck (top) as well as a five-seat SUV or rear-open-air Jeep-like vehicle with the spare tire hanging off the rear (bottom images). The EVs are made in Warsaw, Indiana. (Images courtesy of Slate Auto.)
