Definition: ShuffleBox

An Amazon optical network device that mixes connections between routers internally. The ShuffleBox is used in Amazon's Resilient Network Graph (RNG) datacenter network that enables traffic to travel across alternate paths. Similar to the multiple paths in a mesh network, the connectivity is randomized and every node is not connected to every other. In the past, Amazon traditionally used fat-tree networking (see fat tree topology).
