Definition: SATA SSD

(Serial ATA Solid State Drive) A solid state drive (SSD) that uses the SATA hardware interface. SATA hard drives have been used since the early 2000s, and as solid state drives (SSDs) became popular, they were designed with SATA compatibility. However, SATA was never created for the SSD architecture, and NVMe is increasingly replacing SATA as the hardware interface for solid state storage. See NVMe, SATA and SSD.
