Founded in 2000 by Zhang Rujing in the Cayman Islands, SMIC is partially state owned with manufacturing facilities throughout China. Offices are also in Taiwan, Japan, the U.S. and Italy.
SMIC customers are Huawei, China's largest device manufacturer, Qualcomm and Broadcom. Texas Instruments has pulled out of SMIC. After Huawei was blacklisted by the U.S. in 2019, SMIC delisted itself from the New York Stock Exchange. See
