Definition: SDTV

(Standard Definition TV) A set of digital television standards with 480 lines of resolution (see DTV). SDTV may refer to the resolutions or to the TV set, but SD always refers to the resolutions. Although plenty of SD content is still available, new TV sets are all HDTVs, which support both SD and HD formats. See HDTV. See Rec. 601.
