Definition: SBTVD

(Sistema Brasileiro de TV Digital) Also called "ISDB-T International" and "ISDB-Tb," it is the Brazilian digital TV broadcasting standard. Adapted for the South American market from the Japanese ISDB-T technology, SBTVD supports H.264 and MPEG-4 video frames rather than MPEG-2. Launched in Brazil in 2007, within a few years, all South American countries except for Colombia and the Guianas, adopted SBTVD, as did Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the Philipines. Other countries in Latin America, as well as in Africa and Asia are expected to participate. See ISDB.
