Definition: RoCE

(Remote Direct Memory Access Over Converged Ethernet) A network protocol that provides remote memory-to-memory (DMA) access over Ethernet. Also called InfiniBand over Ethernet (IBoE), RoCE encapsulates InfiniBand packets over Ethernet. RoCE V1 is a link layer protocol between two hosts, and RoCE V2 is a network layer protocol that routes IP packets. RoCE can be used in non-converged networks as well. See DMA, RDMA and InfiniBand.
