Definition: QIC-Wide


(Quarter Inch Cartridge-Wide) An enhanced version of QIC magnetic tape from Sony that provided more storage capacity. It increased recording density and used wider .315" tape in a standard QIC Minicartridge with a redesigned housing. QIC-Wide drives supported both QIC-Wide and QIC (DC2000) formats. Travan drives also supported QIC-Wide tapes. See QIC, QIC-EX and Travan.
