Definition: PuTTY
An open-source terminal emulator that supports the major protocols such as SSH and Telnet. Written initially for Windows in 1999 by British programmer Simon Tatham, PuTTY is also available for the Mac and Linux. The origin of the name was not declared, although some think it means "Put TTY," because TTY is an abbreviation for teletypewriter. See terminal emulator and TDD/TTY.
