The development name for an earlier Unix initiative by IBM, SCO, Sequent and Intel. In 1998 and using technologies from IBM's AIX, SCO's UnixWare and Sequent's DYNIX/ptx platform, Project Monterey focused on creating an open, flexible version of Unix for Intel Pentium and Itanium as well as PowerPC computers. Released in 2000 as AIX 5L OS, it supported all platforms with a common development environment. See
