Definition: ProRes


A family of formats from Apple for editing video. ProRes was designed to maintain the highest quality images while working in a post-production environment. ProRes supports transfer rates from 10 to 377 Mbps and a variety of SD and HD resolutions from 720x486 to 2048x1556. ProRes 4444 supports full resolution 4:4:4:4 (RGBA), which includes alpha channel video such as from digital cinema cameras and Sony's HDCAM SR format. See HD formats and AIC.
