A search engine from Perplexity AI, Inc. that uses large language models to tailor responses to questions. Developed by Aravind Srinivas, Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho and Andy Konwinski and released in 2022, Perplexity uses Bing's search engine and its own curated search results.

The free service uses OpenAI's GPT 3.5, while paid versions can access models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and DeepSeek. Pro and Enterprise Pro users can also include their company data uploaded in formats such as Word and PDF.

Shopping, Finance and Perplexity Assistant
In 2024, a shopping hub was added to supply product information, and company stock quotes and financials were added. In 2025 and also available for Android and iOS, the Perplexity Assistant added enhancements to the Web search.

Perplexity Comet
In 2025, Perplexity launched Comet, a Chromium-based "agentic" Web browser, which can summarize articles, conduct research and compose email messages. Comet was launched as invitation only. See Chromium.

Perplexity Pro
For $20 a month, Perplexity Pro is a paid subscription that provides access to several AI models and search modes. Users have access to Labs, which can handle more complex projects.

Perplexity Max
For $200 a month, Perplexity Max is a paid subscription for professionals who need unlimited access to extensive research capabilities.
