Definition: Pereos

An earlier magnetic tape technology that was the world's smallest. The battery-driven, 10 oz. drive was about the size of a bar of soap and connected via the parallel port. Using helical scan technology, its tiny cartridges held 1.25GB compressed. Originally developed by Datasonix and made by Sony, in the late 1990s, manufacturing became too expensive and production ceased. See magnetic tape.

It Doesn't Get Much Smaller
Helical scan technology crammed more than a gigabyte (compressed) on the tiny Pereos cartridges.
